Who this suits
Parents-to-be who plan to buy the larger items on Amazon, and anyone whose family and friends would like a list to buy from. The wishlist and Subscribe & Save cost nothing to join; Prime is the only paid option here.
Baby Wishlist: the timing is what matters
The Baby Wishlist discount is 15% on eligible items from your own list, on up to £2,000 of orders, so at most £300 off. It opens 180 days before the arrival date you enter and closes 90 days after it, and the list needs to have been active for at least 14 days before you can use it.
- Create the list at least two weeks before you plan to buy the pram or cot.
- Nappies, infant formula and books are excluded, and only items marked Discount Eligible on the list count.
- It cannot be combined with other offers; Amazon names Lightning Deals and Prime Day deals. On a deal day, compare the deal price with 15% off the normal price and pay whichever is lower.
- Only the person who created the list can use the discount, and it is not refunded if you return an item bought with it.
- Once it expires, you cannot get another for eight months.
The Welcome Box
A separate, limited offer while stocks last. Create the list and wait five days. Then put at least £10 of qualifying baby items, sold and dispatched by Amazon, from the list into your basket and add the Welcome Box; the box itself does not count toward the £10. Amazon's terms also ask for 10 unique items from the checklist on your list. It is one per customer, delivery charges may apply, and it goes only to UK addresses, not the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or BFPO.
Nappies: Subscribe & Save, not the wishlist
Nappies are left out of the wishlist discount, but nappy packs can carry a Subscribe & Save option next to the one-time price; Pampers New Baby size 1 did when we checked.
Each item shows its own Subscribe & Save discount on the product page, and five or more products arriving in one delivery to one address can take it up to 15%. The price is set on the day each order is processed, so it moves with Amazon's price. Repeat deliveries are free; non-Prime customers may pay for the first one.
- When your baby moves up a size, cancel that subscription and start one for the next size before the Last day to update this order date in Your Subscribe & Save Items.
- Cupboard full? Skip one item, or use Skip All in Manage your Deliveries for the whole delivery.
- Change how often it comes, the next date or the quantity at any time; the change applies from the next delivery.
Amazon Family is a sharing scheme
In the UK, Amazon Family lets a Prime member share Prime with one other adult and up to four children at the same address: delivery, member deals, Prime Video, Prime Reading and a shared digital library, plus child profiles with parental controls. It is useful if one parent already has Prime. A free trial membership cannot be shared.
Prime, only if the numbers work
A 30-day Prime trial started by 5 October covers Prime Big Deal Days on 6 and 7 October. After the trial, Prime costs £8.99 a month or £95 a year. What can wait
Amazon Kids+ is for children aged 3 to 12 and needs a compatible Amazon device, so it can wait a few years.
